Visiting Bran Castle from Bucharest

“Dracula’s Castle” is Romania’s most famous sight — and with a bit of planning it makes a superb private day trip from Bucharest. Here is what to expect from the road, the castle and the day.

Getting there

Bran Castle sits about 170 km north of Bucharest — roughly 2.5 to 3 hours by road through the Prahova Valley, one of the prettiest drives in Romania. Most guests break the journey at Peleș Castle in Sinaia on the way up, which turns the transfer itself into part of the day.

Beating the crowds

Bran gets busy, especially in summer and around Halloween. Arriving at the right moment matters more than arriving early: on a private tour the schedule flexes, and guests regularly mention that well-timed visits let them skip the worst of the queues. Inside, allow an hour or two for the castle and its courtyards.

What to combine it with

The classic loop pairs Bran with Peleș Castle and the old town of Brașov — three highlights in one day with a single pickup from your Bucharest hotel. Entry tickets are bought at each castle and are not included in the tour price, so keep a little cash or a card handy.
